Developing a Passion for Learning • Building Independence • Celebrating Diversity • Embracing Challenge
As head students of Christchurch South Intermediate, it is a delight to welcome all prospective students and their caregivers to our fabulous school. South is filled with a wide range of opportunities for everyone, from the sports field to the arts, academics, cultural activities and more. Our staff are friendly, devoted and always there to lend a helping hand, while the students are committed and respectful. All of our numerous extension groups are run by the talented teachers, who go out of their way to help us progress in every subject. One of the highlights of every year is the annual Broadgreen exchange. Last year Broadgreen came to South, and this year we are looking forward to our upcoming visit to Broadgreen, where there will be many opportunities and social experiences that would not normally occur. Leadership teams are a big part of our school. We have a Social Awareness team, Arts and Cultural team, Health team and Physical Activity Leaders team. The Social Awareness team is in charge of planning social events such as mufti days, wacky hair days and fundraisers for charities and our school. The Arts and Cultural team organises fun ways for students to get involved in the arts. The Health team makes sure our school is a healthy environment for kids to learn in, and the Physical Activity Leaders plan sporting events for South pupils to enjoy. Another of the great things at South is our sporting excellence. There is an enormous range of sports, with something for everyone. In terms two and three, there is after school basketball, where anyone can play. There is also cricket, which is played in the summer. Netball, hockey, soccer, rugby and squash are played every Tuesday during the winter terms, and we have many other sports, including volleyball, badminton, softball, touch and tennis. Throughout the year, we also have school athletics, cross country, triathlon, duathlon and swimming events, and those who do well go on to represent South at the interschool competitions. We are also known for our ability in the arts. We have a fantastic performing arts teacher and art teacher, and many staff members have musical and artistic talents. Some of our popular arts and cultural groups include choir, chorale, the Arts and Cultural team, Kapahaka, and Pasifika, and there are events such as Battle of the Bands, Lip Sync, and the biennial Major Production, all of which colour our time at South. Being head students is a huge honour that we all hope we can live up to, and when we leave South, we will take with us all of the knowledge, skills and experiences that we have gained as a result of our time here. We would like to thank all of the wonderful students and staff, who help us along, and are the backbone of everything we achieve while we were here. We hope that future students will have as much fun as we are having, and wish every pupil who will attend South in years to come the very best of luck.
