Bird Feeders

On Thursday the 25th of August, some members of the Health and Environment team made bird feeders to support the (native) birds in Christchurch during winter. The bird feeders will be hung up in our trees at school and in our garden at home.

The aim of this project was to bring back native NZ birds to the area.

The process was really easy and fun. We melted lard with peanut butter and added bird seed. Then, we dipped pinecones into the mixture. Once the mixture has set into the pine cones they are ready to hang in the trees.

A big thanks to Mr. Laing, who has offered to help us build wooden bird feeders that we can refill when needed and hopefully bring back birds over a longer period of time.
