Mānawatia a Matariki!

In Week 9 of this term we celebrated Matariki (Māori New Year) in a range of different ways. During our lunchtimes we ran a pod vs pod Ki o Rahi competition, with Sheppard coming out on top! Kei a koutou te toa! On Wednesday, we invited whānau to join in our kapa haka group - the Matariki Macarena was definitely a highlight. It was an early and chilly start to our Thursday morning, with whānau and ākonga arriving at kura at 6.30am to try to see the Matariki Cluster rising above the horizon. Unfortunately, we were unable to see Matariki, but were able to view some of the planets and identify other constellations. The hot chocolates were a great help to warm us all up! Tēnei te mihi ki ngā whānau i tae mai i tērā ata - thank you to those whānau who joined us. We ended our Matariki Week with the sharing of kai. We had a schoolwide sausage sizzle organised by our Māori Leadership Team. Kei runga noa atu koutou - thank you to the Māori Leads that helped cook and distribute the sausages, you are amazing!

It was a buddy week filled with lots of activities and events to help us remember events from the past few months and look forward to what this new year will bring. Matariki hunga, Matariki ahunga nui.
