About Us

Christchurch South Intermediate School is decile 6 middle years school specialising in the education of students in years 7 and 8. We are located between the suburbs of Addington and Cashmere and our catchment is bounded by the Port Hills, the Heatcote River and the city. Currently we have a roll of approximately 545 with 24 teaching staff. Our main contributing schools are Addington, Somerfield, Thorrington, West Spreydon and Hoon Hay. After their 2 years with us most of our graduating students attend Cashmere High School, though past students can be found at all of Christchurch’s secondary schools.

Our motto is "Aim High" and as an intermediate school targeting the needs of Year 7 and 8 students we have developed a vision that focuses on the very specific needs of this age group;

  • "developing a passion for learning"
recognising that learning is a lifelong creative process
  • "building independence"
helping our young people to take responsibility for themselves and their futures
  • "celebrating diversity"
enjoying the wide and varied cultural and socio economic backgrounds we come from and the range of abilities we have to share
  • "embracing challenge"
encouraging our students to move out of their comfort zones in order to grow in confidence as they begin to move through the significant and rewarding early adolescent years.

This vision guides all that we do as a school.

Our shared values are the important qualities that we try to live by as we go about our work and relate to each other. We refer to these shared values as "The South Way".

  • The South Way
    Self Discipline
    Commonsense
    Respect
    Commitment
    Support
    Involvement
    Honesty
